Bass Ackwards

So I started playing Assassin's Creed Origins today. I know, I know, I did the games out of order but since they are both older games I thought no harm, no foul. And thus far I am finding Origins to be the superior product so I'm glad I saved the best for last.

Just like the Star Wars prequels had more bells and whistles than the original trilogy, but failed to capture the charm of the supposed fourth, fifth, and sixth episodes, so does Odyssey pale in comparison to Origins. I hoping the love affair continues as I get deeper into the game. On a shallow note, I much preferred Alexios's asthetic to Bayek. Yes, when you get brief glimpses of it, Bayek's body is bangin', but his face...let's just say he reminds me of Stripe from the movie Gremlins.

Be that as it may, I'm a grown up so a hero doesn't have to be hot to be intriguing and is Bayek ever intriguing. He's dark, mysterious, and brooding. His personal history is far more tragic than Alexios's. The Stone Circle side quests are heartbreaking and Bayek's motivation for violence is far more convincing.

The only advantage Odyssey has to Origins is the ability to customize Alexios's look. I find myself longing to have the same freedom with Bayek since his garb has so many cool layers and textures. That being said, the outfits available for Bayek all look very badass so it's a minor annoyance if one can label it an annoyance at all. If I'd played the games in order I wouldn't know any better and I would have been perfectly happy with the available outfits.

As I delve further into Bayek's world, I hope the story holds up. Only time will tell but so far AC Origins is fully enjoyable on every level.
