The Downfall of Greedfall

Don't let the negativity of the post's title fool you: I F@#KING LOVED THIS GAME. The story is one of the best I've played all year. I love the characters, each constructed with their own talents and weaknesses. I love all the armor and magic goodies you can loot, craft or buy to get your character battle-ready or just lookin' like a pimp. The world-building is phenomenal and the open world (maybe semi-open, with the way you must jump from map point to map point?) offers so many amazing side quests. The romance options, while limited, are far superior to those in Skyrim-- at least the het female choices. Seriously, what was up with all the bald, fat, old guys, Skyrim? But Vasco and Kurt are lovely, strong, young men. And Vasco, you rockin' that face tattoo. And even though he's not an option, Catasach is one big bird who could get me to open this sesame street. Mmmm mmm mm. Sorry, what was I talking about?

Oh yeah, the awesomeness that is Greedfall. Just about everything in this game shows a lot of care and craft, especially the central quest. The main story arcs mesh with the side stories as masterfully as The Witcher 3. So what the f@#k is there to complain about?

No, it's not the wonky graphics or character mechanics--though I won't lie, that took a beat to get used to, but the story and the world is so freaking amazing that's all forgiveable. What is NOT forgivable is that there is NO AFTER-GAME GAMEPLAY?!

Whaaaaaa...?!

I'll say it again: once you are done with the main story, your adventure is OVER. Unless of course you do a new playthrough which is worth doing because you can try a different character path, make different decisions and get different outcomes. That's all well and good but after the big reveal at the end there is no finishing up those side quests you didn't do because they weren't as compelling as the main quest. There's no new game plus and there's no DLC. It's much like the ending of Casablanca after Rick bids his lady love goodbye. The only thing you're left with is the option to "Play it again, Sam" (which Bogey never actually said in the movie, but hey, it's engrained in pop-culture so you know what I mean). As for playing it again? Hell yeah, raging tenlans couldn't stop me.
